Crazy,
How much do you charge for lessons and when do you give them?
Thanks- DE

Hey'a DE, thanks for writing!

We offer many opportunities for students, both children and adult.
The best, in my opinion, would be the one-on-one lessons.
Classes are scheduled (by appointment) at the student's leisure,
run about an hour and costs only $10.00 (each, p.h.).
There is no (long term) obligation,
you may take as many or as few as you like
and guests are always welcome (at the same price.
We do allow/welcome parents of younger students to "sit in").

The other advantage, to the one-on-one lessons are/is,
you will learn what you want to learn, at your own pace....
If you decide you want to switch "subjects".... not a problem!

Just call the office (M-F, 12-3:00 PM, EST) @
863-293-2035
and let me know what you are interested in and when you can come.....
or call any time (24/7) and / to leave a message!

Hope to hear from you!

Hello Crazy Irving!

I am looking for a unique and special Christmas gift for my mother-in-law.
She has had an interest in becoming a clown for many years,
but doesn't really know how or where to get started.
I found your website and, since she spends her winters near you,
I wondered if you could send me some information about your classes.
I have a few questions:

1. Do you offer one class or a series of classes?
What would she need to get started?
(If we decide to give her classes as a gift,
I would want to cover everything she would need to get started --
I don't want to pay for one class and have her end
up paying for more than that to learn what she needs to know).
2. When are your classes offered?
3. What is the cost?
4. After taking classes,
is there a group she can connect with to do parades, charity events, etc?
Someplace she can use what she has learned?
I don't think she is interested in doing anything professionally,
but I think she wants to be professional at what she does, if that makes sense to you.

Any advice you can give me about getting her started would be greatly appreciated!

Sincerely,
C J (name and adress withheld)

Hey'a C,
Thank you for writting. I think that's a wonderful gift idea and yes, we can help!
For a beginner, may I suggest the one-on-one classes.
The student may come in when it's convenient
(for them, by appointment. I have some students that come in once or twice a week,
others will choose to come in every day or every other week!)
and learn what and as much as she wants to, that particular session.
(e.g.. one session she might choose "hands-on" make-up, the next might be ballooning...
she might decide half way through a class to "switch subjects"
and/or review last session and that is also fine!).
She will learn at HER pace!

The group classes are more structured, with particular information to learn that session.
If you miss a class, you miss that information!
Also, the class only moves as fast as the slowest student
and might waste time on info she may already know!
The group classes run two hours, once a week, for $25.00
(each class**also see "clubs", below)
and is structured to last 6 weeks/sessions
(and may not be scheduled at a convenient time, for her).

The one-on-one classes (one hour sessions) are only $10.00 each (pay as you go).
We don't have a set number of classes to take, depends on her interest.
And again, she sets an appointment to accommodate HER schedule
(dates and time, e.g. this week Tuesday at 10:00A.M., next week Friday at 4:30P.M.)!

I have several students that have been coming for several years
(this is how we started our alley/club
www.crazyirving.com/clownalley
kinda' like a night class with low or no-cost lectures and workshops,
"continuing education"! Membership is only $15.00 a year
and members are given a monthly schedule of events they can participate in!
If they want to "work", I offer a list of paying "over-flow" jobs!
A person that picks up "charity spots" (from my list) are given "credits" towards merchandise!).
Meetings are the first and third Thursday (of each month) at 7:00 P. M.
(We also host a magic club, every third Tuesday at 7:30, if she gets into magic!).
Both clubs are an excellent way to meet (and learn from) others with the same interests!

As far as materials involved, same thing is going to apply.... depends on her interest/wants.
We offer make-up and wigs for sale and have several people here to help her create a costume
(she could order one from one of our catalogues or make it herself).

I would also suggest our 50/50 gift certificate
(students get an additional 10% discount off store (in stock) merchandise!),
for any amount, depending on your budget
(e. g. a $100.00 "50/50" gift certificate could give her five classes and $50.00 in merchandise
(or any ammount or any way you want to divide it! ..
and I would divide it so that she can take advantage of both classes and merchandise!
**Club checks should be written separately, directly to the club/clubs).
That's a good start!
Then she could decide what she wanted to do from there!

Make-up class, for example, is at least two sessions, and a starter make-up kit will run her $19.95
(or she could buy just what she wanted, in any size, at a 10% discount).
Then, as classes progress, she may want balloons, tricks or even a "face-paint kit" for kids.

Hope this helps, C, I know she'll love it!!
Hope to hear from you

Crazy Irving,
I'm an aspiring clown and have a few questions that I thought you could maybe help me with.
Could you please give me some kind of brief description, pros and cons
of the different types of make-up available for a beginner?
Also I'm curious about the different types of balloons available.
What is the difference between 160Q, 260Q, 360Q and so on?
Thanks
"Aspiring Clown"

Hey'a "AC",
My oppinion is that
Mehron is the best quality product for the best price...
the only product I stock (but I will/can order any brand you specify!!)!!
Almost anything available (clown, theater or horror) will be found to be produced by Mehron!!
Better product, lesser price!! End of sentence!!
Check it out at ...
www.crazyirving.com/products (scroll down to Mehron!)

In balloons, I only sell "
Qualatex", again, best product for the money!!
(same page, scroll down to pictures)
HINT: When you see a balloon number ("#") that is followed by a "Q", that would be a Qualatex product!
The first number (e.g. 2 ( as in "260"), would be the diameter,
the second number e.g.60 (also as in "260"), would be the length!
So a 260Q would be a Qualatex product, 2" D x 60" L (when inflated) ,
the most popular "animal-twisty" balloon!!
(the other sizes would be "specialty"...
I carry the full line..... flowers, hearts and apple, ect. and many "flavors", standard, pro and neon, ect!!)
Thanx for writing, Bump-a-Nose!

Hello,
do you have a trick called the Ring Escape, you take a ring and lock it on a lock,

what is your price????

Vic

Hey'a Vic
Yes, I do!! click here...
www.crazyirving.com/products
scroll down to "Magic Collection" , click on "Page 2"
scroll down to "
Ring Escape"(sixth item after menu!).
Retails in shop for $45.00...
will give you the price you saw on the net (with printed verification and/or web-site info!)...
You are welcome! (We do ship!!)

Dear CI,
I am looking for body make-up for this up-coming Halloween.
I am very fair skinned and I want to "color" myself up
(face, arms, legs, midriff, neck, shoulders) as Egyptian or middle eastern.
What do you recommend in the line of cosmetics?
I need something that will withstand being worn for several hours outdoors. Thanks! ;)
Best Regards,
J. V.

Hey'a JV,
Celebre' is top of the line ("Theater") Mehron!!
They have every color you may want!!
Strong, vibrant colors made to last the duration under "harsh" conditions!!
Excellent for both theater and street wear!!
You will be very happy with the results and less expensive than most "over the counter" cosmetics!!

www.crazyirving.com/products (scroll down to Mehron, theater!)
Have fun!! -CI

Do you know of a "quick" source to rent a strait jacket for use in a community theater play...
for a rehearsal this Monday afternoon?
Strait jackets are "not to be found" in this area
We've tried calling hospitals and correctional facilities with no luck.
Any ideas?
Thanks for your time.
-- Patti

Thanks for writing, Patti,
Surprisingly enough, strait jackets have been abandoned by most facilities...
"cruel and unusual punishment".
I do, however, carry one for magicians...... retails for about $350.00!
There is a "costume" jacket (Velcro "bindings") retails for about $50.00,
that I could order for you but will take a week (or more) to get to you!
I am not familiar with your area...
have you looked in the yellow pages for "costume/masquerade rentals"?
Most of the magic shops sell and do not rent....
Idea:
If you have a good seamstress (tailor) on crew, have them extend the arms of a white jacket
(butcher or doctor's coat would be the best!) by twice,
sew the cuffs closed and attach a belt (half on each sleeve) or Velcro
and put the jacket on the actor backwards!
(the crotch strap is why it has been considered "cruel and unusual"!! lol).
Or they can use muslin or heavy "sail-cloth" and a standard shirt pattern (no collar)
and double the sleeve length...
Break a leg! Let me know how you do!!

Heeeelooooo Crazy Irving!!
I'm a 20 year old guy in Athens Ga.
Since I was a born I've always been obsessed with entertaining people. (middle child) haha!
But I've been reading up on clowns a lot lately and I am super interested in becoming a clown.
I was wondering if their were any clown schools in Florida and if you might could send me a list if them.
That would be sooooo cool of you.
Anyway you've probably got to go twist some balloons or something so keep on clowning.
peace,
JOJO

Funny letter, Jo-Jo!!
I do offer a complete "package", if you are in my area!! (also) Check out my "
Links"!!

Hello,
I am a middle school teacher and we are doing some fake scars for a carnival we are having.
A theatrical group told me to use Rigid Collodion.
I have only used spirit gum to make these.
How do you use this stuff to make the rolled scar?
Please write back if you can help me.
Thank You,
K R

Hey'a K,
This is a wonderful (professional theater) question, thank you for writing!
(I would like to post this on my site, with your permission!)

Rigid Collodion is pretty new
(we just started carrying it about 4 or 5 years ago).
It is an excellent "close-up" (TV, video and/or "live") effect!!
"Rolled" spirit gum (and/or liquid latex, which was new a few years ago...)
is now "old school" for scarring! (I'm "old school" theater, I know what you are talking about!!lol)
No make-up, setting powder or "holding" and/or "tack" time is required with this product
(but you can add make-up, if desired (under or over)!
Pink is a new scar, brown is an old scar...
but you have got to see the results of this product "plain", to believe it!!),
it's FANTASTIC!!
There are several reasons
Mehron's RC has gained in popularity over any other product...
(1) Cost and safety (most important to theater (and school) groups!)
(2) Time of application (and removal)!
(3) Easier application; Mehron containers come with a brush in the lid! Just "paint" it on!
(I suggest 2-3 coats ("layers" or "beads") for deep scars. For "burns" (or aging),
just "stipple" on one layer/coat.
Add more layers/coats (when it "tacks", not dried) for deeper scaring)
(4) Very little drying time is needed (we're talking seconds between "coats")!.
(5)You don't have to be a make-up artist to apply this product!
Just put it where you want it! Just add more for "depth"!!
(6) Removal is easy and painless (just peal it off like a Band-Aid!).
(7) Last several hours!

K, the days of "suffering for the art" is (are) over! lol
This product (for scars) beats latex prosthetics and time consuming "skin folding", by a mile!!
Peals off or is easily removed with alcohol (I prefer Mehron's "Spirit Gum Remover".
For sensitive skin (young people's and blemished skin),
I suggest
Mehron's "Barrier Spray" before application!).
How it (RC) works; the chemicals, when dried (evaporated), shrink... drawing the skin with it!
Works exceptionally well on "fleshy" areas (such as the face)!!
NOTE:
Always cleans skin with a mild soap (and warm water)
before application and after removal of any make-up!!
Welcome to the 21st Century of Theater, K! lol
We carry many sizes (starting at around $3.00)
and will send you a "free" catalogue with any purchase!
Hope this helps and I look forward to hearing from you!

I am going to a party as a Plague victim.
As such I would like a large wound (3-4 inches across) on my neck.
Do you have any suggestions?
Thanks, Jim

Hey'a Jim,
Thanx for writing!
Yes I do have a very nice verity of
Woochie "wounds"
(gaping neck, about $20.00, including "glue-on" or "elastic-clip")...
however, as a "plague victim",
I would suggest "dead skin" and "open wounds"..... almost "living" "zombie"
www.crazyirving.com/calendar/october
Not knowing where you are (location, or when you need these products)
or your experience with make-up, let me run a few things by you...
With just a few minutes (and just a few dollars)
you can create your own look using "liquid latex" and make-up......
very much like:
www.crazyirving.com/products/lesson.htm and very easy to do!!
For "zombies" and/or "plague victims",
I suggest applying Oat Meal to the wet latex for "texture".....
"dead" would be grey (make-up)... living would be pink......
Hope this helps..... you are welcome to E-mail, anytime, for more info!
Thanx again for writing!

Crazy
ive drawing on my self and on others with a
Sharpie® all i want to know is
is it safe and if there is a safer pen that doesnt wash out that easily
please tell me!
EH

Hey'a EH,
Sharpies® can be used (on skin) in "a pinch" but I don't recommend it as
"normal technique/application", especially on other people!!!

Depending on your application (use) there are so many other "professional"
(make-up) choices! Ever drive a nail with a boot? It works (in a pinch)....
but if you're a carpenter, should'nt you own a hammer!!??

If you have time to describe your needs, I will suggest the best products!

Hope this helps, e-mail anytime!

I found your name on dlite.com.
What is your local price for a pair of adult 2-color D'Lites?
(I have the red ones, and I want to do more.)
Do you stock the 2-color red/green thumbs ?
Do you have other cute light-up ticks for night use
with an audience 30 feet away ?
Curious L in Kissimmee

Hey'a, L!
I sell a lot of the single (red), Adult and Jr.
I am currently out of stock on those items but I do buy directly from Rocko, I'll have to look that up for you.
You can do a lot more with two tips and even add an assistant with a tip
or even a laser pointer (excellent "chase and capture" effect)!
I have seen some very funny "juggling" acts done with many
D' Lites.
(Have you seen his video? I may have one left, give me a call at
863-293-2035)
If you work cards, he has a great gimmick to be used with the D'Lite and a deck of cards!!
I especially like the color changing rose! I can work twenty minutes with it!
Comedy or drama, they are all excellent effects!
(I can/will compete with any advertised price!!)
Thanks for writing, hope to hear from you

Greetings:
I currently have some Fantasy F-X tubes of make up.
It seems they are older products and I am wondering if they are still okay to use.
Could you possibly help me with this?
Is it okay if my grandchildren play with it?
Thank you for any help you can give.
Vi

Hey'a, Vi!
Thanx for writing, I am confident that if the "tops" were closed tight, the make-up should be fine!
The first thing you want to do, with anything that is applied to the skin, is to look through the tube(s)
and make sure there is no apparent "mold" (there shouldn't be any but just check to be sure!
I "sniff" everything that goes on "my" kids! lol).
Depending how old they (the tubes of make-up) are and how they were stored,
I have a few tricks that will extend the life of your make-up another few years;

1: Get yourself as many plastic, empty film canisters (with lids) that you have colors of make-up
(anyone who(m) develops film, will just give them to you...free!! They throw them away!).

2: Open the tops (of the tubes of make-up) and try to squeeze the contents into the canisters...
if it is too thick or hard, just cut off the bottom of the tube
and squeeze or scoop out the make-up into the canisters
(try to save as much as you can). If the product is too thick, simply add water!! Too "loose", let air dry!!

3: I put one "can" of each color in the middle of the table (versus a "pallet" for each child...
unless you want them to take it (pallet) home!
You can pick up those new "sandwich savers" (plastic containers with lids) at the grocery store...
makes a good "keep-able" pallet!).

4: When the kids are done, store the "lidded" canisters (of make-up) in a "zip-lock" baggy
(for next time! Honest, it can last for years!!)!
I put the letter of the color (G for green...R for red, etc...) on the lids, with a "sharpie" pen, and label the bag.

Note:
Mehron's Fantasy F-X (make-up) is water soluble (means it "air dries", you don't have to "set" it!),
formulated to be a "cream" style make-up... if it is too thick, just add A LITTLE water...
if it is too "loose"(watery), leave the top off to evaporate! (mix it good, either way!!)
The products you have should be safe and a lot of fun for your grand-kids
(and you, Vi!! Get out the camera!! lol)!
They can apply it with brushes, "Q-Tips", sponge type applicators or the most fun is with their fingers! (lol).
"F-X" is non-toxic and washes easily from both skin and clothing (with a little soap and water)!
Face painting is fun and educational!!
Teaches sharing and color mixing ( mix red and yellow to get orange, etc...)
and introduces "art" and "design" to the kids!! (I love to see a kid "think"!! lol)
Have fun, Vi! Thanks again for writing!
(E-mail any questions, anytime!!)
-CI

Our church is hosting a "glow in the dark" party on Halloween as a neighborhood alternative.
As part of the party, we'd like to have face painting, and in keeping
with the glow in the dark theme, I was wondering if you could provide
more information on your glow in the dark Fantasy F-X creme color, or
what you might recommend.
Thanks!!

Hey'a,
Mehron's Fantasy F-X is a wonderful (and best, in my oppinion) glow in the dark product
(and most inexpensive).
It is a water soluble, cream product (just like all the other "F F-X") it's safe on the kid's faces,
doesn't stain and holds up (glows) for and hour or more.
Most popular size is the one ounce tube (around $3.00).
You really can't see it with the lights on, with the lights off it is bright, yellow-green.
Some of the artist use it on-top of other colors so you have like two things going on,
with and without lights (it also works very well under black light, but again, it's only that one color)
There are other"UV" make-up available
(they don't glow in the dark, you need a "Black light", ultra-violet),
that come in several colors, but it's very expensive
(around $15.00-$20.00 for a 2 ounce jar, depending on color).
I keep Mehron's products in stock and we have some time if I need to get you a large quantity of it!
Depending on how many kid's you plan to paint, it does go a long way!
Thanks for writing, I hope I can help you with this project!

Thanks. I've bookmarked your page - we're expecting 100 kids.

10 tubes should be more than plenty! Remember, this product can last for years!!
Let me know when you will need them and I will send you only "fresh" stuff!

I'm waiting to hear back from a powder supplier on the safety of putting the powder
in our homemade cold cream recipe (that we could color), but I'm a little leary on that.

At the cost of F F-X (cheap) none of my church groups even use
"tempra" any more (too many alergic reactions)
No product is absolutely "hypo-allergenic", but I have had no complaints about F-X,
either on the kid's skin or removing it from clothing!
The other thing, you want a product that will air dry (no "setting powder") otherwise,
a "wet" product (cold creme) will get on everything, trust me!!!
(F-X, even dried for many hours, can be removed easily with a "wet wipe"!)

Thanks for your quick response.

Any time!!
-CI

Dear C.I.
I have been trying to remember the names of the tiger trainer
and the elephant trainer that were at Circus World.
They were brothers and the elephant trainer was in an accident
involving a bull elephant - the trainer was mauled.
Can you help?
Thanks!

Yes, early to mid 80's.......
Roman (elephant trainer) and Tommy (Roman's younger brother, trained the cats)
Shmitt (from long (family) line of animal trainers!!)
I understand Roman (please don't quote me... only rumor among circus folk)
was killed in a second accident......
(someone out there tell me this is true or not!!).
I came to Circus World when Jewel New was there with his lion act(1980)..... around 82,
David Mc Milan (sp?) came with his "Flying Tigers"
(from Great Adventure, in NJ... also where my replacement, Bill Hamilton (as boss clown), came from)
Late 83/early 84 (?) Tommy worked his cats.
I think Roman was there when I got there in 80......
he was very important in building the "elephant research center and breeding compound"!!
(I believe his were the first (Asian Elephants) to mate and give birth (in captivity) in the world!!
The largest compound at that time... that's where he had his (first/major?) accident...)
Send any questions to this site!!
If I wasn't there... I'll will look it up for you!!

Hello,
We recently purchased a set of ears from you that are made by
Woochie.
My boyfriend told me to look up on the website as to how to apply them
as well as how to remove them.
I have read the directions on the packet as well as what he has remembered to tell me.
I think we can get them on without any problems,
I am more concerned with getting them off after we fashion them about town.
Any information you could provide me as far as what to use to remove the adhesive from the ear
and not damage either my skin nor the product.
Thank you for your help.
Merry

Hey'a Merry,
I strongly suggest
Mehron's "Spirit Gum Remover", however, in a pinch, alcohol will disolve it ok
(with a little rubbing, both on your skin and on prosthetic)....
make sure you wash the areas well with soap and water!!

To protect your prosthetic (and any mask, for that matter), for many years,
I also suggest using
Mehron's "Caster Sealer" before storing!

Happy Haunting!!
