The History of
Crazy Irving

Irv Luther started clowning in 1968 as
"Ralph the Magic Clown"
in New Haven, CT.

Photos available soon

As clowning skills developed from a stand-up, "Magic Clown",
"Uncle Nebbacanezzar Periwinkle"
was developed in the early 70's
Adding juggling and unicycle riding, Irv expanded from "just parties",
performing in parades and at local fairs and festivals.
Irv also worked briefly with Circus Vargas in 1974.

More commercial work
created another "white face" character in the late 70's,

"Sir Rufus Slewfoot"

In 1980, Irv was accepted
and graduated from

Irv was assigned to Circus World, in Florida,
where he soon earned the job "Boss Clown"

Early '82 , Irv changed from the white face clown
and developed an auguste clown character
"Troubles"
to be able to perform more "prats".
During one of the shows,
one of the Ring Masters watched as
Irv "flew" across the high wire and announced
"...look at that
Crazy Irving!!!" The name stuck!!

Irv left Circus World in 1984
to join the road show version of "Bananas" on its national tour.
Irv was a "non-scripted" act with 45 minutes out of the 55 minute show.
The show was taken to New Orleans to open the 1984 Worlds Fair

In late 1984, Irv returned to Florida and
created
"Crazy Irving Productions"
In addition to the Crazy Irving character,
Irv developed another white face character
"Mr. Funtastic"
to showcase commercial contracts
and advertisements.
